Ryan is the CEO of Malaya Optical – which has been committed to providing exception optical care since 1957, specializing in myopia control for children, ortho-k, RGP, and progressive lenses for presbyopic patients. They carry a wide range of designer eyewear from brands like Lindberg, Mykita, RYAN ADDA, and Moscot, along with premium prescription lenses from Zeiss, Hoya, and Essilor. As a Zeiss Expert Centre, they utilize state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment, including fundus cameras and the Zeiss Visufit.

How have you benefitted from BBX?
Our partnership with BBX, which began over 15 years ago when they expanded from Australia, has played an instrumental role in our growth. How has your business benefitted from BBX? 
We were able to get services like PR and marketing for an event through the BBX platform without having to put down cash. Our exchanges are often reciprocal – I use my Trend Café to host BBX events, benefitting the community, while other BBX members buy coupons to spend there, offsetting each other. 
 
What do you like most about BBX? 
I’d give our trade coordinator Juliana a thumbs up – she is a person who takes initiative and drives trade within the community. You hardly find someone as passionate as her! 
 
How do you think platforms like BBX help address the challenges faced by SMEs? 
I believe cashflow is king, so when we exchange different goods and services without cash in our community, we are able to help one another, all while enjoying the privileges that the BBX platform has to offer, like the networking events.

How do you spend your DTC on our platform?
Everything from printing and professional services to corporate gifts where I get to source for our conferences – all facilitated by the BBX trade coordinator, and a lot of these transactions are reciprocal exchanges.

What do you like about BBX?
The in-person get-togethers! They are effective at facilitating trade on the platform by showcasing the members’ goods and services, while fostering collaboration, support and mutual growth. We find them to be great for vendor acquisition.

What would you say to someone considering joining BBX?
If you’d like to have an alternative to cash for exchanging your products and services with fellow business owners, this is a great platform to be on. It is an example of a circular economy in practice, and offers ready access to a wide network of members.
